The 2010 BMW R 1200 RT

The 2010 BMW R 1200 RT: Introduction

November 5, 2009 - BMW R1200RT today announced the new 2010, along with the 2010 1200GS and R1200GS Adventure (info). Big news is the dual overhead cam 1200 cc (actually 1170 cc) engine!

BMW R 1200 RT is always recognized as a symbol of a comfortable and dynamic in a motorcycle tour of the classical style. And now, the latest version of this unique active traveler, with a significant innovation, offering even more superior quality and benefits thanks to dynamic ENDURO new boxer engine.

In the configuration and the basic structure, the new flat-twin engine with Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) engine found in BMW Hp2 Sport. This, however, has been further improved and optimized for the BMW R 1200 RT to meet the specific needs of tourists extraordinary.

With a 1170 cc boxer engine in the former model "already offers superior drive power in all conditions and in all circumstances", according to BMW, the new R 1200 RT is even more to offer.

BMW says the new engine offers maximum torque increased 85-88 lb-ft at 6000 rpm that does not change, for greater acceleration and passing power. Also, useful engine speed range has been increased by a maximum of 500 rpm to 8500 rpm.

The third improvement is a significant increase in torque where it really counts at low and medium engine speeds, with the "smooth and uniform torque curve", according to BMW. Maximum horsepower engine with 110 hp the previous model but now occurs at 7750 rpm (previously 7500 rpm).

New Boxer Engine for Touring
BMW R 1200 RT is always recognized as a symbol of a comfortable and dynamic in a motorcycle tour of the classical style. And now the latest version of this very special active travelers with important innovations offer more benefits thanks to sualities and dynamic new engine.

Designed and built for the engine speed is higher, R 1200 RT new boxer engine, such as the engine appeared on BMW Hp2 Sport, equipped with two chain-driven overhead camshafts (DOHC) per cylinder.

Valves operated by rocker arm is a light easily able to cope with high engine speeds. Fourth radial valve arrangement allows for a very compact combustion chamber configuration, and as the former model, the fuel / air mixture ignited by two spark plugs (Hp2 Sport: one spark plug). 12.0:1 compression ratio remains unchanged.

Knock Control allows the engine to run on premium 95-98 RON (plus) fuel. In certain circumstances, the driver can experience a very small decrease in torque and slightly increase fuel consumption every time a knock control cutting in.

Horizontal arrangement of the camshafts driving directions call for two specific technical features in the new flat twin-engine: Each camshaft control of one input and one exhaust valve, and the cams are finished in a cone because of the radial valve arrangement.

In the interests of power and performance at low and medium engine speeds, and to provide even better ride free revving characteristics, intake and exhaust valve timing on both camshafts have been further improved.

Compared with former models, a base diameter of the valve on the side of 1,41-1,54 inches 1,22-1,30 inch intake and exhaust side. Valve clearance is adjusted by the half-ball of light shims. To provide a free-larger valve cross-section, the valve lift of 0.415 inches to 0.365-inch intake and exhaust on the side of 0.425 inch on both sides.

The main overview of the new machines feature of the 2010 R 1200 RT:

- New, even more dynamic engine with two overhead camshafts per cylinder.

- New DOHC cylinder head cylinder offers even more cost efficient.

- The maximum torque increases to 88 lb-ft at 6000 rpm, maximum output remains at 110 hp at 7750 rpm.

- Increasing the maximum engine speed from 8000 to 8500 rpm, with power even wider band.

- Enhanced significant torque and acceleration.

- Torque Curve smooth.

- Cylinder head cover now with two, not four, installing bolts and a new dynamic design.

- Collapse electronically controlled exhaust for the superior and powerful voice.

Another new feature of the 2010 BMW R 1200 RT include:

- ESA II Electronic Suspension Adjustment with damping, the base and now also the spring rate spring that can be adjusted with the touch of a button.

- BMW Motorrad Integral ABS featured as standard on some versions integrated.

- Gift a new design with increased protection from wind and weather.

- Redesigned cockpit with a helmet.

- A new control unit and hydraulic reservoirs.

- Glass front of the car is controlled electronically with optimized aero-acoustics and increase transparency

• presents the new design with protection from the wind and the weather improved again.

- Redesigned cockpit with a helmet.

- A new control unit and hydraulic reservoirs.

- A new audio system with a controlled interface for USB/MP3 and iPod, operated by the Multi-Controller.

- Adjustable foot shift lever.

- Hard-shell cases (each with a capacity of 32 liters) appears as a standard, accurate according to the four-point locking systems and cover the body finished in color.

- Tank comfortable installing a fence for accessories.

- New Color for the R 1200 RT: Polar metallic, Gray metallic matt Ostra, Thunder Gray Metallic, multi-color paint in conjunction with Thunder Gray metallic base colors.

- Expansion of additional coverage optional and special equipment tailored to the R 1200 RT, is naturally on the quality of BMW.

More significantly Speed Torque Throughout The Range
The ratio is bored to stroke remains the same at 3.98:2.87 inch, 1170 cc engine gives the same capacity as before.

Other features borrowed from the former engine is crankshaft and connecting rod, and their bearings, while the second piston cast aluminum has been redesigned to suit the changed dimensions of the combustion chamber.

Interacting with upgraded intake system, throttle butterfly manifolds is now offering 1.97 inches, 1.85 inches rather than the former (Hp2 Sport: 2.05 inches) permit the opening, newly designed air intake and air filter element with capacity of volume increase, such machines in the past developed a maximum output of 110 hp, now at 7750 rpm. Greatest improvement, however, is the increase in maximum torque to 88 lb-ft at 6000 rpm.

Oil cooler ensures stable temperatures even under extreme driving conditions. Further improvement on 2010 models use the cylinder head cover with the two, not before four, install new bolts dynamic design. A valve cover guards made either from plastic or aluminum or chrome-plated aluminum cylinder cover is available as an accessory item.

Electronically controlled Exhaust
Electronically controlled exhaust flap is now the standard for superior sound and muscular. In the two manifold exhaust system comes in the same design, length and diameter of the former model, while the interference pipe has been modified to carry a different vibration conditions in the exhaust manifold into account.

Displaying an exhaust flap is controlled by an electric motor and the opening / closing the cable, the BMW R 1200 RT offers a very strong boxer, but the sound is full compliance with all legal standards.

To reduce the ram pressure and increase the engine, rear silencer does not change the exterior design versus the former model comes with a modified interior structure.

Revised Six-Speed Gearbox and Driveshaft
As in the past, the power is transmitted through a six-speed gearbox was upgraded in 2008 model year, with larger diameter bearings and a modified gap between the shafts. Free maintenance on the rear wheel drive shaft is the same as before.
